THE WORLD'S FIRST STREET ART DISASTER MOVIE

May 20, 2010

+ released a while ago infamous graffiti artist banksy released a documentary titled "exit through the gift shop", which not only portrayed himself but other street artists as well. specifically it begins with a filmographer named thierry who later becomes m.b.w. or mr. brainwash, after he follows in the footsteps of other well known graffiti artists. the film is only shown in select theaters around the states, and only at the harvard exit theater in seattle. everyone should check it out if you admire street art because it gives a great insight to what and why graffiti artists do what they do.

LUPE FIASCO STEPPIN LAZER TOUR AT THE SEATTLE SHOWBOX

May 8, 2010

+ this was one of the most insane concert i've ever been to. the showbox is definitely a great venue to perform at, even though there was no air conditioning, the crowded and sweaty atmosphere amplified the performance. not only did lupe perform hits off his old albums he jammed out some new songs off his "we are lazers" album.

+ opening act was b.o.b. who has the current number 1 album out now

BOUTIQUES: THE FIELD HOUSE

Jan 16, 2010

+ After visiting Blackbird shop in Ballard, my friend suggested I take a look at The Field House down the block. I didn't know what to expect except that it was just another small boutique. Inside the 'House' everywhere I looked appeared to be vintage, stuff you would find in your Grandpa's wardrobe. Everything from the apparel, to the bags, and grocery items (they had those old glass milk bottles and honey jars). It was a very different atmosphere in this shop compared to Blackbird, there was more of a heritage and homely feel. Brands carried their include April77, Woolrich Woolen Mills, Filson, RRL, etc. Its worth checking out if you want to purchase something with more meaning and long lasting quality as the past used to create.

BOUTIQUES: BLACKBIRD

Jan 11, 2010

+ Besides street wear I like to broaden my horizons and learn more about 'urban' fashion as well. And what I mean by 'urban' is instead of graphic t-shirts its more like cut-and-sewn clothing. So over the weekend I got the chance to visit a unique boutique that has been mentioned numerous times in GQ and Details magazine. The boutique is named Blackbird located in Ballard and sells men and women clothing as well as niknaks ranging from wallets, books, and candles. Next door there is also a candy shoppe that looks like those old town candy stores when a chocolate bar was only 5 cents. Surprisingly one of the workers was also a friend of mine who used to live in LA, small world.

EVERY MAJOR CITY HAS THEIR OWN BURGER JOINT

Jan 8, 2010

+ For the city of Tacoma I'd have to say Frisko Freeze is the go-to-place for a classic All-American burger. It's as close to In-N-Outs as we can get. In 2009 it was even ranked 3rd in the top five best burger places in Washington State (via King5). As this is the only authentic place to get 'original' style burgers, it was no surprise how busy it was when I visited. It's also a registered city landmark.

+ opened since 1950

+ spotted two things in this picture. the reflection of me, and a shrimpwich? maybe i'll try one next time

IS IT PRONOUNCED 'FREE' OR 'FRY'? FORGOT TO ASK

Jan 7, 2010

+ Recently I visited the Frye Museum located at Seattle's First Hill. The museum mainly holds pieces from Charles and Emma Frye's collection, hence the museum name Frye, but also showcases other pieces as well. There were only two collections when I visited, Open Roads & Bedside tables, and Living Legacy. They were preparing for a new collection in February so I couldn't see the full capacity of the museum.

Check Out Their Site Here -------> FRYEMUSEUM.ORG

+ this is my favorite picture i took at the museum and it wasn't even in the gallery. it was just outside of their cafe. the guy on left kept looking at me funny after i took the picture.
